Confirm the promise immediately
The viewer clicked for a reason. The fastest way to lose them is to make them wait for it. Restate the promise of your title in the first line and signal that they're in the right place. No long intros, no "hey guys, welcome back," no channel trailer.
Hook formulas that work
- The bold claim — "Most of what you've heard about this is wrong."
- The stakes — "Get this wrong and it costs you months."
- The open loop — "By the end, you'll know the one change that fixed it."
- The fast result — "Here's the finished result, now let me show you how."
- The relatable problem — "If your videos get no views, this is usually why."
A simple 30-second intro structure
- 0–5s: Hook — confirm the promise, create tension.
- 5–15s: Context — why this matters to them, in one or two sentences.
- 15–30s: Roadmap — a quick preview of the payoff, then straight into it.
Cut the throat-clearing
Watch your own intros back and delete everything before the hook. Most scripts have 10–20 seconds of warm-up that adds nothing. The tighter your open, the higher your retention curve starts — and a high start lifts the whole video.
Write the hook first
